Police walkthrough

Police readiness, from the CED in the store to the speedometer on the car.

Six films at one station: Curlew Creek, with general duties, highway patrol, a divisional van and a dog vehicle on the Early shift, then the fleet behind them that afternoon: a lease, an accident, a lease return and a donated 4WD. The officer’s phone and the dashboard play together, chapter by chapter.

Film 4 of 6: The speedometer

HWP 32’s speedometer certificate ran out, so the car is restricted and the lidar goes out on HWP 31. The renewal closes the defect and HWP 32 is back on run.

In this filmThe speedometer

HWP 32’s speedometer certificate ran out yesterday. Luke takes another car for the lidar, and HWP 32 is back on run by 11:21.

0:00 / 1:14

HWP 32’s speedometer certificate ran out yesterday. Luke takes another car for the lidar, and HWP 32 is back on run by 11:21.

  1. On the lidar’s screen. Luke scans lidar LTI-4410 to start its deployment. Its calibration certificate comes from the register, never typed. He picks the car. Under the station’s Queensland rules the car’s speedometer counts as evidence, so its certificate shows too. HWP 32, his rostered car, has none in force since yesterday. The screen shows the record; it rules on nothing. He takes HWP 31 instead, in date until 14 March, and starts the lidar’s start of deployment check.
  2. Why HWP 32 is restricted. At 00:04 the hourly job found HWP 32 with no certificate in force and raised a major defect, which restricts the car. Alerts went out at 30, 14 and 7 days. The test was not booked in time. Where the rules do not treat the speedometer as evidence, an expiry shows in the Vehicles lane and raises no defect.
  3. 11:20, back on run. At 11:20 HWP 32 is back from its test. Maree records the certificate; with no expiry stated, Queensland’s 182 days apply. In force to 29 April 2027. The defect resolves itself, and HWP 32 is on run again. Constable Sophie Tran takes the second lidar out on HWP 32, both certificates in date. Her operator certification is not on record, so the phone notes it and never blocks her.

Illustrated from the real crew app and dashboard, with police switched on. The rule pack is Queensland, labelled to confirm against your procedures; shift profiles, the CED windows and every limit are set by each force, as are the replacement rules and lease terms. The board shows readiness by the force’s own records. Escudo Emergency records devices and their dates, never the people tested, readings, offences or footage, and no firearms. Alerts appear in the dashboard. People, the station, its vehicles, serials, the testing firm, the lessor, the transport company, the donor and the other vehicle are invented.

Options and solutions

Everything police brings, in one place.

An organisation’s administrator switches police on in Settings. Every Escudo Emergency check keeps working alongside it, including the 40 starter templates for police.

What the police board counts

VehiclesVehicles by role on run against the shift profile, with their start of shift check and, where followed, the speedometer certificate.
Evidential devicesSpeed and breath devices with a calibration certificate in force, seals intact and no expired consumable lot in them.
Custody transportVans and pod utes on run with their pod checks passed and no biohazard hold.
Cameras and radiosBody-worn cameras, in-car video and radios in service and returned, with no fault on the latest imported camera status.
Protective equipment (advisory)Body armour within its stated life, CEDs tested and uploaded within the force’s windows, cartridges in date. Never past Restricted.
First aid and safetyAEDs and first aid kits at the station in date.
Specialist capabilityDog, public order, rescue, forensic and other specialist vehicles by role, on run and not held.

Each station is Ready, Restricted, Not ready or Not set against the shift profile in force, with every reason in plain words and notes that never change the status. The station takes its worst lane, except Protective equipment, which is advisory and never takes it past Restricted. Changes not acknowledged go to fleet managers after 15 minutes and to org admins after 60, unless the rule pack sets other times.

Speedometer certificates by rule pack

Each station chooses a pack, and every value is labelled to confirm against your procedures. Where the pack treats the car’s speedometer as evidential, a highway patrol car or a car carrying a speed device with no certificate in force gets a major defect until one is recorded.

  • New Zealand. 365 days. The car’s speedometer is treated as evidential: with no certificate in force, a major defect.
  • Queensland. 182 days, as the films show. Evidential.
  • South Australia. 90 days. Evidential.
  • Australian Capital Territory. The approved list, with the expiry from the certificate. Evidential.
  • New South Wales. The approved Ballinger SDS CAN unit only: 12 months on the equipment register, to confirm against the in-force regulation. Any other speedometer: the force enters the expiry from the certificate.
  • Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory. Not confirmed: the force enters the expiry from the certificate, and an expired one shows in the Vehicles lane only.
Police readinessEach station Ready, Restricted, Not ready or Not set against its shift profile, every lane with its reasons, deployments and open changes.
Police setupShift profiles and what each asks for, planned reductions, vehicle roles, device certificates and the police options.
Police registersBody armour with panel and carrier warranty ends from the labels, CEDs, consumable lots and speedometer certificates.
Camera statusThe maker’s device list imported with a column mapping step, the latest status per camera and the faults.
Police insightsCertificates in force over time, deployments by operator certification, camera faults, lots expiring and speedometers due.
Device packOne device: certificates, seal, deployments and their checks, with a SHA-256 fingerprint.
Fleet and lessorReplacement against the force’s own rules (months, kilometres or engine hours, whichever comes first; none seeded), under-used and idle vehicles, kilometres over the agreed lease limit and leases ending within 60 days. Never a cost.
AccidentsWhat happened to the vehicle, the damage linked from the drawing with damage marked before it flagged prior, the defect it raised, photos, and the police, claim and lessor references. Other parties as references only unless the force switches names on.
Accident packThe vehicle, the incident, the references, the damage and the damage already there, defects and repairs, with a SHA-256 fingerprint. Never the driver’s personal details, alcohol or drug questions, test results, speeds or fault.
Lease return packThe lease return check with both signatures, the damage marked up to the return, open defects and the odometer against the agreed kilometres, with a SHA-256 fingerprint.
Donated assetsHandovers of donated vehicles and equipment signed by both parties, a donor pack per programme, and a read-only link for the donor that ends after the days set.

What Escudo Emergency never does

Records only. Escudo Emergency keeps the records, works out the board and reminds people. Calibration, operator training and use of force stay with your own procedures and the laboratories you use. More on police.

  • Record the people tested, readings, offences or footage: devices and their checks only
  • Import camera footage, location, video counts, who recorded what or the maker’s user list
  • Record CED discharges, firing logs or anything about the person carrying or facing one
  • Say a vest protects anyone, or record the wearer’s body or injuries
  • Work out an expiry: lot and warranty dates come from the label, intervals from the rule pack or the certificate
  • Block a deployment for a missing operator certification: it is noted, frozen on the deployment, and left to the supervisor
  • Record the driver’s personal details, alcohol or drug questions, test results, speeds or who was at fault in an accident record
  • Work out a lease charge, a repair cost or a replacement cost: kilometres and dates only
  • Record firearms
